Dottie Miller Announces Candidacy for Montgomery County’s 53rd State House District

(HATFIELD, PA – February 20, 2014) – Today Dottie Miller announces her candidacy to represent Montgomery County’s 53rd State House District as a Democrat.

“I have dedicated a good portion of my professional life to advocating for the members of my union,” Miller said, “and now I am ready to step up and do the same as a public servant.”  Miller has received the endorsement of the Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU), AFL-CIO.

Miller is running to add her voice in the State House to create good paying jobs, protect and strengthen our public schools, promote labor issues, safeguard our environment, and promote a dialogue in Harrisburg that will allow our state to thrive.

“So many veterans, seniors and working families are struggling today and their pain and concern needs to be heard in the halls of the capitol from someone willing to listen and advocate for them on their behalf.  I look forward to developing plans that will improve our commonwealth, while at the same time protect our vulnerable seniors from increasing tax burdens,” Miller stated.

Miller serves as president of Local 1937 Office and Professional Employees International Union and is a laboratory services coordinator at a local pharmaceutical company. She is a member of the Montgomery County Workforce Investment Board, chair of the Montgomery County Commission on Women and Families and vice chair of the Hatfield Township Planning Commission.  Miller has extensive community service experience, including the North Penn Y where she serves on the Lansdale Board of Managers, the North Penn Y Board of Directors, the North Penn School District Tax Advisory Committee, a member of a Jobwise Ministry at Calvary Church that helped displaced workers, the Boy Scouts of America and various charities in the area. She also teaches evening graduate and undergraduate courses at Gwynedd Mercy University in its School of Graduate and Professional Studies.

Miller lives in Hatfield with her husband of 35 years, Bob, a retired electrician who served in the Air Force Reserves.  Her family includes one son, Bobby, and his wife, Amy.  Miller holds a BS from Gwynedd Mercy College (now University), an MBA from Auburn University and numerous certificates, including one from Harvard Law School.
