OPEIU Statement on the Passing of TTD President Larry Willis
The officers and staff of the Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU) extend their deepest condolences on the passing of TTD President Larry Willis. Larry was a tireless advocate for working families and their unions, having dedicated his career to uplifting the voices of transportation workers throughout the country, including OPEIU’s helicopter pilots.
As a member of the TTD, OPEIU has always recognized the crucial role the department plays in advocating on behalf of our members, many of whom often work under extremely dangerous conditions. We are forever indebted to Larry and the work he did to improve the working and safety conditions for them and all transportation workers. Under his skillful direction, TTD became a stronger, more effective force for good. We all will reap the benefits of his efforts and accomplishments for years to come.
We are proud to have known and served alongside Larry Willis, and mourn his untimely passing. Our thoughts are with his family and friends and all who knew and loved him.
Happy Thanksgiving from Your Union
As we celebrate Thanksgiving, we continue to be impressed by and thankful for OPEIU members’ hard work this past year in the face of uncertainty and crisis. With the new year approaching, we know there are plenty of challenges still to be met. OPEIU is committed as ever to fighting for our members, and we are working to ensure every working person will have a larger slice of the pie by this time next year.
From the bargaining table to the Thanksgiving table, OPEIU is proud to call you family. Happy Thanksgiving!

Biden’s Victory Means Workers Once Again Have a Seat at the Table
Joe Biden’s election victory is a victory for working families throughout this country, bringing with it a renewed sense of optimism that they will once again have their voices heard in the Oval Office. As we celebrate this victory today, we know there is much work to be done and look forward to working with the Biden administration to reestablish and further the interests of all working Americans.
Earlier this year, a survey of OPEIU members — the first-ever of its kind in our union’s history — showed a strong majority in support of making Biden the forty-sixth president of the United States. OPEIU members throughout the country worked tirelessly in the months leading up to the election to help get out the vote for Biden and his vice-presidential running mate, Kamala Harris.
With Election Results Unknown, All Votes Must be Counted
New York, N.Y. (Nov. 4, 2020) – As we collectively move into a period of electoral uncertainty, OPEIU reaffirms its commitment to mobilizing its members to safeguard our democratic institutions from anti-worker attacks by President Trump and his allies.
For more than a year, Trump has been setting the stage to contest the outcome of the election. His team will do all they can in the courts and on the ground to throw out votes, attack ballot counters and intimidate those who wish to see the election decided by the voters — not by the president.
Our union will join the effort to monitor the situation in key states, particularly those with governors with a demonstrated track record of voter suppression and strong-arming, and do all we can to ensure all votes are counted and that those votes determine the winner.
