Hispanic Heritage Month
OPEIU is proud to celebrate the contributions and achievements of Hispanic Americans this #HispanicHeritageMonth. The power and resilience of Latinos in the U.S. has, for generations, enriched our national tapestry and inspired workers across cultures to organize for a brighter future.

Remembering those lost on September 11, 2001
OPEIU commemorates those who lost their lives 25 years ago on this day. Our thoughts are with the victims’ families and their loved ones as we reflect on the anniversary of that fateful day.

Happy Labor Day!

This Labor Day, we celebrate the perseverance of workers who continue to stand up to their employers, demand fair compensation and show solidarity during one of the worst years for workers’ rights in modern history.
American workers joined unions, including OPEIU, in growing numbers over the last year despite new anti-union legislation and an emboldened elite happy to trample on our right to organize.
Working people have been resilient, demonstrating this is a movement defined by something more profound than the desire to improve our working conditions. We are held together by the fundamental principles that everyone deserves to live a dignified life, have a voice on the job and know their labor will be rewarded fairly.
Working families are struggling with a cost-of-living crisis pushing healthcare, housing and education even further out of reach. But they realize the only way to achieve these things is to join together in solidarity!
Worker power is stronger than any policy or politician attempting to delay our progress. Nothing can stop the momentum of organized workers fighting for the common good.
Happy Labor Day!

Supreme Court Undermines the Right to Vote
The Supreme Court’s out-of-touch decision to allow the Trump administration’s voter suppression initiative to continue is an affront to all Americans.
Nearly one-in-three Americans voted by mail in the last presidential election. It is a critical lifeline for rural, disabled and elderly voters who have difficulties making it to the polls.
President Trump’s scheme to undermine the right to vote is unconstitutional, authoritarian and designed to dissuade people from voting at all. We wholeheartedly condemn his executive order to restrict mail-in voting and call on states to continue to fight back against his cynical attempts to undermine the right to vote.
OPEIU Brings Publication Online, Filling Reporting Gap Without Filter
New York, NY — The Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU) brought its longstanding publication, OPEIU Connect, to Substack today, enabling members and the public to read about OPEIU’s work in an easily accessible way. With the creation of this new platform on Substack, readers can easily view in one place stories about members, analysis of political and economic issues impacting working people, highlights from recent negotiations at local unions and updates about the benefits of OPEIU membership.
In a moment when newsrooms across the country are underfunded, consolidating and closing, and studies repeatedly show that American journalism overall has deprioritized covering labor, workers and their unions have a unique opportunity to tell their stories on their own terms. This Substack will help fill the coverage gap by delivering workers’ stories directly to readers.
“Bringing OPEIU Connect to Substack is just the natural progression of our core work that starts on the shop floor — empowering members with a voice,” said Tyler Turner, president of OPEIU. “OPEIU members will now be able to tell their own stories without the filter of outside editorialization and do so with details that rarely make it out of the union hall.”
Magazine articles will be published quarterly upon each issue’s release and are all tagged by local union, meaning searching for a specific local will bring up an archive of relevant stories. Stories are also sorted by category and topic.
Subscribe at opeiu.substack.com to receive email notifications when OPEIU Connect publishes new articles. Journalists are encouraged to reprint material from the website if they provide proper accreditation and are always welcome to follow up for further details or with questions by emailing frontdesk@opeiu.org.

Voters will head to the polls in just a few months to decide the path our country takes over the next two years.
