Lansing, Michigan (February 16, 2012) – In a National Labor Relations Board election held yesterday, Registered Nurses at McLaren Greater Lansing hospital voted for Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU) Local 459 by a wide margin. Local 459 was challenged by an independent group, the Ingham Professional Nurses Association (IPNA). The vote was 236 for OPEIU Local 459, 144 for IPNA and 8 no union. “These registered nurses have shown that they know OPEIU Local 459 can best represent their interests at the bargaining table, and are knowledgeable on issues that affect their profession such as staffing levels, safety concerns and patient care,” said Local 459 Service Representative Joe Marutiak. “We are pleased they voiced their approval for Local 459, and we will work diligently to protect their interests.”
