On March 7, 2021, President Biden issued Executive Order 14019, Promoting Access to Voting. Agencies subject to the order (including FMCS), are required to promote nonpartisan voter registration, engagement, and participation.
As part of this order, FMCS would like to direct employees, affiliates, stakeholders, other parties, and members of the public to voter information found on the website www.vote.gov and to ensure that your voter registration information is up to date.
Voter participation is important to a well-functioning democratic republic, as established by our Constitution. Our government – federal, state, and local – is elected by the citizens. Citizens vote for their government officials and these officials represent the concerns and ideas of the citizens in government. For example, your Governor is elected by the voters in your state. The Governor is in charge of the executive branch for your state. Voting is one important way that we can participate in our democracy. Besides voting for officials, we also vote on issues. Voters may want to make changes to their community, such as building bigger schools or adding new roads. Voting in an election is another critical way to participate in our democracy when we want to support or change a law.
