AFL-CIO’s Richard Trumka, Hawai’i Governor Neil Abercrombie and
San Diego Mayor Robert Filner to Speak
San Diego, California (May 31, 2013) – Labor leaders from throughout the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico will gather June 3-6, 2013 in San Diego for the 26th Convention of the Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU), AFL-CIO.
The convention will have the theme, “Work Connects Us All,” recognizing OPEIU’s diverse professional membership that includes administrative and clerical employees, as well as a host of other professions such as nurses, insurance agents, podiatrists, appraisers, Minor League Baseball umpires, teachers and helicopter pilots.
During the convention, OPEIU will be electing officers who will lead and serve the members for the next three years. Delegates to the convention will elect 19 officers: President, Secretary-Treasurer, and 17 Vice Presidents.
Scheduled speakers include Governor of Hawai’i Neil Abercrombie; San Diego Mayor Robert Filner (D-CA); AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka; Lorena Gonzalez, secretary-treasurer of the San Diego and Imperial Counties Labor Council, AFL-CIO; Stephanie Miller, host of The Stephanie Miller Show on Sirius/XM Satellite Radio; Clayola Brown, president of the A. Philip Randolph Institute; Arturo Rodriguez, president of the United Farm Workers of America (UFW); Randy Tucker Jr., president of the New York City Chapter of the NAACP; Leslie Tolf, president of Union Privilege and comedian and political satirist Colin Quinn. Michael Buffer, the ring announcer for boxing and professional wrestling matches, will be the Master of Ceremonies.
